This will continue until we reach the heaviest advanced level. At the conclusion of the weight divisions, the open will commence. Brazilian Style will run first followed by Freestyle, allowing for competitors to take part in both.

At the conclusion of the match where no submission has been achieved, the winner will be determined by the most points. Points will be awarded based on the following criteria.

Perfect Throw or takedown

When a competitor offensively ( using a throw ) forces his/her opponent to the mat from the standing position. Offensive fighter must be in control and in stable position for points to be awarded. If a throw is attempted but thrower loses balance by either opponent pulling them down or from poor technique or throw being accidental, no point will be awarded.

If you then achieve hooks that's an additional 4 points. Prevent the mount.

Submission will win the match regardless of points. Submission is achieved when opponent visibly taps out (either by tapping opponent of mat with hands) due to inability to escape technique that results in a degree of discomfort.
In the event of a tie in points, advantage will be determined. The referee has final decision.

- any takedown with technique - any attempt at choke, arm locl, or near submission
- reversal of fight without technique . - person with more aggressive stance

Important note: Should a competitor have a dominate position for the duration of the match ( guard, top cross mourn etc. ) and fail to win by submission or points, the victory may be awarded to his/her opponent based on inability to utilize dominate position. As well in open class where weight difference is considerable and tied in points, victory may be awarded to the smaller competitor based on superior technique to neutralize bigger opponent (or failure of heavier competitors to use weight to his/her advantage).

A competitor will be disqualified from the match if heal she intentionally tries to injure his / her opponent by twisting the neck or by lifting his opponent and throwing him on his beck of his hock to the ground etc. or where there is an infraction to the tournament rules.

A competitor who demonstrates a lack of desire to fight by opening gi, trying to escape match area, trying to escape the ground, or by not taking the fight to the ground will receive a warning by the judge. A second warning will result in the deduction of 2 points. If a competitor persists and is deducted a total of 6 points, he will forfeit the match.
